Mushroom Cultivation Promotion by KVK, Bamanwara (Jalore-II)
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bamanwara (Jalore-II) promotes mushroom cultivation as a low-cost, high-value enterprise for income generation and nutritional security in the arid and semi-arid regions of Rajasthan. Through capacity-building programmes, hands-on trainings and demonstrations, KVK sensitizes farmers, rural youth and women about the scientific methods of mushroom production.
KVK, Bamanwara provides practical training on cultivation of suitable mushroom varieties such as oyster mushroom, including substrate preparation, spawning, crop management, hygiene and harvesting practices. Emphasis is laid on the efficient use of locally available agricultural waste like wheat straw, thereby converting farm residues into nutritious food and value-added products.
Mushroom cultivation requires minimal land, water and investment, making it especially suitable for small and marginal farmers and landless families. The adoption of mushroom production has helped beneficiaries enhance household income, improve dietary diversity and create self-employment opportunities. By promoting mushroom cultivation, KVK, Bamanwara contributes to sustainable livelihood development, waste recycling and nutritional improvement in the farming communities of the region.
